This was our most exciting day thus far. We left Anchorage on a deHavaland Dash 8 plane mid morning and arrived soon after 1:30. This is a 37-passenger aircraft. After a 3 1/2 hour flight, by way of Fairbanks, we arrived at Barrow. Previously we had arranged for a day tour, which they allowed us to take over a two-day period. We have decided to include more picture than usual because Barrow is so different and interesting.

We flew east of Mt. McKinley at 23,000 ft. We were unable to get the base of the mountain because of the clouds.

Barrow's welcome to it visitors.

The Airport Inn is where we stayed the one night. A back view was taken because we wanted to show you the only air conditioner we saw in the entire town. It is in the manager's apartment. We cannot imagine when it would be needed.

John was interested in the plumbing around town. The piping you see is insulated, and it contains both the fresh water and sewer lines. It goes into an insulated tunnel that is several feet below the surface.

This was the highest temperature we experienced. There is only a few degrees variance between the lows and highs at this time of the year.

This picture is to prove we waded in the Arctic Ocean at the most northern point of the United States. Carol stayed in the water longer because John took additional pictures. Her feet were so numb that she had difficulty getting her socks and shoes back on.
