Homer to Anchor Point

It was raining at Homer. Since we could not enjoy the beautiful scenery we had seen two years ago, we decided one day there was enough. Anchor Point was a few miles north, and we had read that eagles feed on the beach after fishermen have cleaned their catch. There were a lot of fish remains on the beach. Along with many gulls and ravens, there were several eagles feasting. There was a little rivalry between some of the juvenile and adult eagles. The juveniles are actually a little larger than the adults and seemed to dominate. An adult eagle would pick up a piece of fish and take it to a sandbar. A juvenile would fly up and take over. As you can see by the sign, Anchor Point is the most western highway point of North America. That means you can drive there without riding on a ferry. We were interested to see how they launched fishing boats. They use a big piece of equipment with a hitch and would hook onto a boat trailer and back right out into the surf. We only saw them recover boats, as it was near the end of the day when we were there.

This is beautiful! I am sure you are enjoying yourselves! Those eagles are amazing! You better be careful with getting into cold water... that can be dangerous. We miss you around here. They are refurbishing the Fellowship Hall so when you get back you will see some improvement. Pastor Orlando will be ordained on the 29th and we are hoping the the F.H. will look better. Enjoy yourselves and come back soon! Love you!
