Soldotna to Russian River

On our way from Soldatna to Russian River, we stopped to watch wood carving done with a chain saw. Two years ago we purchased a two-foot-high bear that holds a welcome sign. It greets guests as they arrive at our home. We were so intrigued with the carvings we decided to stop again. Pictured are a couple of the larger carvings that are done by the two artists.

This is the carver who made the eagle we purchased this year as a gift. The one we picked is not the one pictured. We failed to take pictures of their carousel. However, the animals are not the usual horses but are a variety of animals found in Alaska, like a caribou and eagle.

We took an evening float trip on the Kenai River. Half way through the 13-mile float it started to rain. Had it not been for the rain gear we were wearing, we would have been soaked. The only wildlife we saw were a couple of eagles and one bear. Near the end of the trip we saw lots of fishermen on the banks.
